BAKU STORES CHRISTMAS WINDOW DISPLAYS

Merry Christmas to all my wonderful readers! 

I hope each of you got from Santa very special surprises and loads of smiles :)

Here in Baku we don’t really celebrate Christmas and leave all magical experience of unwrapping gifts, having family meals and partying with friends to New Year’s Eve. But last year I have spent Christmas in the UK and fell in love with the atmosphere. So today I was really sad, because instead of celebrating I had to work all day long. Oh well… while I am in a waiting mode for December 31 when I finally will open my presents, I want you to enjoy the pictures I have taken late night in Baku. It’s a festive holiday window displays! Of course it’s not Bergdorf Goodman’s masterpieces, but they’re still beautiful. Also you can spot me wearing casual and comfy outfit for Christmas/New Year shopping day. Sometimes the view is not from heels ;)

P.S. Tell me what you have found under your Christmas tree? I am really curious :P

Я надеюсь, Санта преподнес вам  немало сюрпризов и одарил волшебным настроением. Если же вы, как и я, ждете 31 декабря, чтобы развернуть свои подарки, то я уверена, что вы полностью поймете мое состояние сейчас :) В прошлом году я провела Christmas в Англии и влюбилась в эту сказочную атмосферу, так что сегодня мне было немного грустно садиться за работу, когда мои друзья из Европы и любимые блоггеры вовсю праздновали. Но, пока мы находимся в статусе ожидания Нового Года, я хочу порадовать вас фотографиями, которые я сняла поздно ночью на улицах Баку. Это специально украшенные новогодние витрины! Конечно это не шедевральные витрины Bergdorf Goodman’s, но они все равно чудесные. Так же в этом посту вы увидите меня в простом, комфортном outfit'е, который я надела для предновогоднего шопинга. Так, что несмотря на название моего блога, вид мне открывается не только с каблуков ;)

MISS LEOPARD. MEOW

Never say never. The more I live the more I understand how true this statement is. Few years ago I couldn’t imagine myself wearing something that has leopard dots on it! I thought it’s very vulgar and only woman with a bad taste would try it on. Now I adore animal prints and think that leopard in right dozes is incredibly fashionable and tempting. In this look I went only for the leopard blouse, which I designed by myself. Hope you will like it, guys! Have you ever had something in your “Do-Not-Wear-List” that later migrated to your “Must-Have-List”?

At the end of this post I’ll also show you some leopard printed items from my wardrobe. Some of them are completely new! :)

Никогда не говори никогда! Чем старше я становлюсь, тем лучше я понимаю насколько правдиво это изречение. Несколько лет назад я и представить не могла, что могу надеть на себя что-то с леопардовым принтом. Я думала, что это выглядит вульгарно и только женщины с дурным вкусом отдают ему предпочтение. Сейчас я просто обожаю animal prints (вы, наверное, уже заметили мою любовь к змеиному принту), и считаю, что пятнышки леопарда, в небольших дозах, могут сделать образ модным и невероятно соблазнительным. Для этого look'а я надела леопардовую блузку, дизайн которой я придумала сама. Надеюсь,  вам понравится :) А, у вас были случаи, когда что-то перекочевало из вашего списка «Никогда в жизни это не надену!», в список must-have?  

В конце поста я так же выставила фотографии нескольких «леопардовых» вещей из своего гардероба. Некоторые из них были куплены буквально на днях!

VINTAGE INSPIRED LOOK: 40s

 I have a passion for everything vintage and retro – classic cars, music of yesteryears, black & white movies and of course fashion. So when I found this fabulous Red Coat in my mom’s wardrobe, I was dying to try some vintage-inspired look. 40s and 50s are one of my favourite fashion eras. I adore all these shapely silhouettes, hats and headscarves, cat’s eye glasses… Ladylike, chic and truly feminine! In this post you will find loads of amazing pictures and my “inspiration board”. I hope you will love this look as I do :)

Я питаю огромную слабость к винтажу и ретро – классическим машинам, музыке прошлых лет, черно-белому кино и, конечно же, моде. Когда я нашла в закромах маминого гардероба этот Красный Тренч, то не могла дождаться момента, когда создам винтажный look. Моими любимыми эрами моды всегда были 40-ые и 50-ые. Я просто обожаю эти восхитительные силуэты, шляпки, вуали, платочки, очки «кошачьи глазки»… Элегантность и бесконечная женственность! MY EDITOR'S LETTER PICTURES

I am so sorry that I haven't updated my blog for a while. I wanted to thank everyone who supports me, write comments and share their wonderful blogs with me! It makes me really happy everyday :)  I was working hard on the new issue of the Wedding Magazine and haven’t really slept like for a few days! KENZO MACARON BAG LOOK

Do you remember I wrote that I luckily bought the last Macaron bag at Kenzo? Here is my first time wearing it. I am brimming with joy that I found it in green colour – exactly what my wardrobe was missing!

STEPHEN WEBSTER'S MYSTERY EVENT IN BAKU

On Friday I had an honour to take part in Murder She Wrote mystery event dedicated to Stephen Webster’s new amazing jewellery collection. The press conference with Stephen and his beautiful wife Anastasia began at 18:00 (I was sitting in the first row ;) ). I couldn’t imagine that Stephen is such a cool and down to earth person and of course as you know I got a thing for everything British, so I melted when I heard his accent :D  When I reached him after the conference the first thing he told me was: I absolutely love your dress! Isn’t the most flattering compliment you can imagine to get from one of the most famous jewellery designers in the world?! We took some pictures that I will surely show you in few days!

Later guest had hors d'oeuvres, delicious desserts and a lot of champagne. By the way one of the ladies fell from the stairs and everything that was in her glass landed on my dress and my bag, so I literally had Champagne Showers :) But despite that fact I had incredible experience, enjoyed the detective game that all guest have played and was dead chuffed about Bryan Ferry’s live performance! Truly marvelous! I wanted to thank ItalDizain Group for organizing this wonderful evening and giving me opportunity to be a part of it. It was night to remember :)

SUNSHINE IN MY HAIR

The last week before I give the Wedding Magazine to print is always very stressful. Being the only person who is responsible for the design and the content is great, but at the same time really hard. So I have worked almost all the weekend and caught just one hour to rest in the garden, read Tess of the D’Ebervilles and make some silly photos  :D

I wove this wreath with pretty yellow flowers by myself (I am so proud of this fact :)). Having some flowers in the hair have a magical effect on me. It makes any look so cute and charming! What do you think?

SPECIAL NIGHT WITH ZARA

In the last post I told you that I am going to a VIP party dedicated to ZARA’s first store opening in Azerbaijan. So here are the pictures from the event I have taken for you :)

The night was magical! Gorgeous fashionable people walking around the store, flamenco dancers, Spanish singers, DJ Mansur’s playing dynamic music that set the tone for the evening and of course the fashion show. All the guests had a special opportunity to be the first customers of ZARA and other new stores in Nargiz shopping centre (including La Senza, Quiz and Aldo). The shopping spree began around midnight and lasted till 2:00 AM.

Later we left to see Phonique’s performance @ Hezz club, but I was so tired that I haven’t took any pictures there and can share just a small video. So be sure to check this post later :)

В прошлом посту я писала, что получила приглашение на VIP вечеринку в честь открытия первого магазина ZARA в Азербайджане. И вот фотографии, которые я отсняла специально для вас :)

SNAKE PRINT AND FUR

Baku’s fashionistas can celebrate! The first ZARA store will be opened on 19^th of November and I can already feel the buzz. Today I attended a press conference dedicated to ZARA brand and have met Executive General Director of the region – Yassine Sibari. Of course I couldn’t not ask if ZARA is going to collaborate with fashion bloggers in future (as did Mango), but apparently it’s not in their plans yet. Also I have been invited to visit the store on Friday night, 1 day before its official opening! I hope I could make some pictures there for you. :)

For the press conference I chose new ZARA blouse and my gorgeous boots with my favorite animal print for fall 2012. As I mentioned before in this post I am crazy about Snake Print and the way it makes me feel. It’s not so trite like leopard print, looks more luxurious and really reveals a wild side in you ;)

Бакинские модницы могут ликовать! Первый магазин ZARA откроется уже скоро, а точнее 19 ноября в Торговом центре NARGIZ. Так, что готовьтесь к  shopping штурму в эту субботу. ;) Именно по поводу открытия ZARA сегодня прошла пресс конференция, где я встретилась с региональным исполнительным директором компании – Ясином Сибари. Он пообещал, что цены будут такими же доступными, как и в других странах, а коллекции обновляться каждые две недели. Так же я была приглашена на открытие магазина в эту пятницу для особых гостей и представителей прессы, ровно за день до того, как ZARA официально распахнет свои двери азербайджанским fashionistam. Но,я постараюсь сделать небольшой фотоотчет для вас :)

На пресс конференцию я надела новую блузку от ZARA и сапожки с моим любимым анималистическим принтом осени 2012. Как вы успели заметить в этом посту, я просто без ума от Змеиного Принта. Он не так банален, как леопардовый, выглядит более роскошно и действительно пробуждает дикую сторону души ;)

COLOUR BLOCK FOR THE ART EXIBITION

Colour Block trend is still huge and I love it! This is my bright outfit I wore to Tora’s exibition  Double meaning. Torakhanim Agabeyova is very talented young Azerbaijani painter and also beautiful and interesting lady. She is getting noticed in the world right now and I hope she will have an incredible future-she deserves it. I took some pictures of her works that I like and also scanned some from her catalogue.

 After the exhibition, I ran to the Park Cinema where European Film Festival was held. We watched "Nicostratos le pelican" in French with Azerbaijani subtitles. The movie told us a lovely story about friendship between a boy and the Pelican. I haven’t really expected anything, but the movie was really great and touching and reminded me some of Emir Kusturica’s masterpieces. And it wasn’t just a coincidence! Emir by himself played one of the main roles in this movie! After the movie I had an honor of meeting the director of the movie - Olivier Horlait. I think he is the tallest man I have ever taken a picture with :)

GUESS WHO

Sometimes I like to wear something comfortable, but still sexy. The outfit I wore on this picture reminds me of Dsquared2 catwalks. There is nothing spectacular about this look, but I noticed that such clothing style is very appreciated by many guys. Seems like they don’t understand some new trends and our fashion frenzies and are attracted to more down to earth looks. :) What’s your opinion? Do you prefer to dress to impress men or you love to try something new even if your boyfriend doesn’t like it?

Иногда мне хочется надеть что-то комфортное, но не лишенное привлекательности. Мой look на этих фотографиях напоминает мне показы Dsquared2. В этом образе нет абсолютно ничего необычного, но я заметила, что представители сильного пола довольно бурно реагируют на девушек одетых в таком стиле. Кажется, что мужчины не всегда понимают новые тренды и не в восторге от наших fashion безумств. Большинство предпочитают вот такие простые образы. Что вы думаете по этому поводу? Предпочитаете наряжаться для мужчин или вы любите следовать модным трендам и пробовать что-то новое, даже если ваш бойфренд это не одобряет?

DECLEOR COSMETICS & MY NUDE LOOK

I always thought that taking care of your skin is the most important thing every woman should do if she wants to stay fresh and beautiful. After meeting DECLEOR’S founder – gorgeous madame Solange Dessimoulie I got added evidence to my belief. She is such an inspiring, full of energy, beautiful woman!

For the press conference and meeting I chose to go for the “nude” look. Nude colour and blush shades are my new favorite colours in my wardrobe, so a lot of my last purchases are in this palette. What do you think about it?

Я всегда считала, что ухоженная кожа – это эссенция женской красоты. Встреча с основательницей знаменитой косметической компании DECLEOR – мадам Соланж Дессимюли, еще раз убедила меня в этом. Мадам Соланж – обладательница просто потрясающей энергетики, обаяния и девичьего задора, выглядела нереально хорошо для своих 70 с лишним лет!

Для пресс конференции и встречи с Соланж, я решила выбрать «nude look». В последнее время я все чаще стала отдавать предпочтение бежевым тонам и нежным пастельным цветам, так что многие новые вещи из моего гардероба именно этой цветовой палитры. А, что вы думаете про эти цвета и мой образ? :)

YVES DELORME'S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY & MY NEW KENZO BAG

My first posts will be dedicated to the events I had visited this fall :)

When I received an invitation to celebrate Yves Delorme’s 10 year anniversary in Baku and launching new brand for Azerbaijan– Ralph Lauren Home, I felt really excited. Meeting important people from such huge and popular brands was a great opportunity and honor. For the event I chose classic chic look you can’t go wrong with: little black dress with heels and added my new stripped jacket.  At the moment I arrived, Yves Delorme store wasn’t full yet, so I had a chance to take pictures of some of my favorite items (snake print bed linen by Ralph Lauren is to die for! Also I have a thing for fluffy slippers).

Under the cut you could see the pictures from the event, my outfit of the day and read about pleasant surprises I got.

Мои первые посты будут посвящены мероприятиям, которые я успела посетить этой осенью. :)

Когда я узнала, что оказалась в числе приглашенных на 10-летний юбилей бутика Yves Delorme в Баку и на презентацию нового бренда для Азербайджана – Ralph Lauren Home, то поначалу я очень волновалась. Это был мой первый публичный выход в качестве редактора журнала Wedding Azerbaijan, и я с нетерпением ждала встречи с представителями таких популярных брендов. Для event'а я выбрала вечную классику – маленькое черное платье и каблуки + дополнила образ новым жакетом. Когда я прибыла, бутик Yves Delorme еще не был полон гостей, и мне представилась возможность сфотографировать некоторые из понравившихся мне вещей (постельное белье со змеиным принтом от Ralph Lauren настоящий must-have! А, пушистые тапочки – вообще моя слабость).

Dear reader,

My name is Ulia Ali and at the moment I am in my early 20s. I was born in the beautiful city of Baku, but now living in London, where I am currently getting my MA Publishing degree at the famous UAL and trying to make my dreams come true.

Previously I studied architecture at the Art Academy, however I always wanted to work in the glossy world of magazines and share my thoughts and vision of life. The start has been made in 2007 when I began working as an artist for kids’ comics. Later I luckily got a job in iNBaku magazine (magazine for expats in English), where I worked as a designer, but also wrote articles about fashion and beauty and had invented Street style rubric with my own shots of people on the streets of Baku. In parallel I tried myself as a model and already was thinking about creating my own blog.

The beginning of 2011 was absolutely fantastic.  I have just returned from my long-term trip to the UK and by a fluke heard that popular WEDDING magazine is seeking for a “new blood”… So at a very young age I became an editor-in-chief and art-director of one of the bestselling magazines in the country Wedding Magazine Azerbaijan (I was writing majority of the articles and designed all pages in the magazine, so it was a dream, but also hard job). Along with that I was contributing articles to different publications and started View From Heels blog.

In 2012 I felt a need of future growth, so I made one of the most difficult decisions in my life - quitted my job, succesfull career, ended long-term relationships and moved to the city of my dreams - London to study Publishing and finally have my own big adventure and I have never been happier in my life! Where I am going now? I don't know. But it is my way and I hope you would like to join and follow me on this route with this blog. Together we can make our dreams true!
